Your character has just died! Maybe it was their canon death, maybe something unexpected happened. But either through murder or accident they are no longer one of the living. But just as they're realizing they are no longer on the mortal coil, a voice speaks in their 'ear'

"Hey, you awake yet?"

Option 2: Welcome to the multiverse

Maybe it's a deserted city, an island of angry locals, Johto, or a school with a murderous teddy bear. Either way, you're trapped in some world other then your own, and there are a lot of weirdos stuck here too.

Oh, but look at the cute half grown kitten! Nothing can be so bad if there are cats to pet. Well, until they start talking to you...

"Oh... hey I don't mind the attention, but think you can give me a hand with this computer thing. Literally?"

[Bus crashes kind of suck. Reliving the same semester over and over in a collective dream world as you'd lay dying? Well, it's better than doing nothing. But after that, she fades from the dream world and into... where is this even.]

[She gives an overly drawn-out stare, complete with "hmmm"s and facial contortions, before finally bursting out laughing.]

Don't worry, don't worry! Cats probably can't be perverts, anyway. It's fiii~ne. Though how come you're talking if you're a cat? I was pretty sure the dream was over, sooo... Unless dying means you get to talk to cats. Rin-chan's gonna be so jealous.

The school bus crashed. The one going to the other class's field trip. I wasn't even supposed to be on it, you know? But I sneaked on anyway because I wanted to ditch class. A field trip sounded like fun. ...And yeah, I wanted to get away from that g-- I mean, Onee-chan. It's kind of a dumb story, huh?
