Post canon college stuff
It was after everything with Sho that Yosuke decided 100% that he was going to go to school after graduating. Of course he decided this during his third year- but thanks to Yu the year before his grades weren't THAT bad. And, well, having a GOAL made forcing himself into cram classes and studying all night much easier to swallow.
And in the end he did it. By the skin of his teeth, but he did it. Sure it was for general courses... but he was still figuring out what his major was going to be. But he wasn't the only freshman doing so, it wasn't a big deal just yet. He could try a few things and see what stuck.
But there was no decent school anywhere near Inaba (his dad suggested Okina- all he'd need for a simple business degree. Yosuke had managed to weasel out of that at least) so it meant he was going to be living in the dorms. With a roommate. Not that he didn't have experience with that kinda thing after Teddie, but...
Well who knows, maybe his roomie would be cool? Someone he could totally become friends with! He was practically jittering with nerves as he was unpacking, waiting to see what this Tachibana guy was going to be like...

Haru, of course, had ultimately decided to pursue swimming professionally, after everything. What Makoto hadn't been expecting, however, was that he would decide to go overseas to study in Australia with Rin. It made sense, of course. Even with what Tokyo had to offer, he seemed to have warmed up to the area when Rin took him before. It was a change of scenery that would be good for Haru. At least, that's what Makoto told himself.
Right now, though, he had other things on his mind. Like moving into his new dorm room with a roommate. He wasn't too worried, especially not since he'd been well used to living in a full house all of his life. It would have been painfully lonely not having anyone around, really.
Yosuke will eventually hear the click of the door as Makoto carefully shoulders his way through, a large cardboard box in his arms. He blinks when he sees Yosuke rummaging through his things near the bed before offering him a friendly smile.
"Ah...you must be my roommate. It's good to meet you."
no subject
"Oh yeah, sorry hold up!" he gets up, dusting off his pants and rushing over, clearing about to offer a handshake and aborting the gesture when a box is in the way.
"Oh crap, sorry let me-"
Here man he's just gonna take that box and make a small grunt cuz dude, heavy. God he feels like a 12 year old in comparison to this guy.
no subject
"You don't have to do that," Makoto says with a slight tilt of his head. It's a bit sheepish too, since that box was carrying his schoolbooks (along with any other small things he could fit into it), so that explains why it was so heavy when Yosuke took it from him. "But thank you. I could help you unpack your things, if you would like. It would get done faster that way."
It would also give them both something to do while they talked and got to know one another.
"My name is Tachibana Makoto."
no subject
"Hey I don't mind, might as well get started with all the heavy lifting early if I'm gonna unpack everything before dark." He guestures to his many boxes and furniture- including a lot of stuff from his room back home. Yes, including the bike and guitar slung on top of the still bare bed.
"I don't wanna put you out though... I bet you got a lot of stuff to haul up still too, right?"
no subject
"It could be worse, actually," he replies with a slight shrug, reaching over to pull back the flaps on the box so he can give the contents a quick once over to make sure everything is still there as he'd packed it. He's a bit impressed by the sheer amount of things that Yosuke has already started to fill their room with, which makes him a bit relieved that his own load is considerably lighter. "Just a few more boxes. Mostly things from home."
As he says that, Makoto takes a moment to look over the room for the first time. It's big enough for two people to manage, but it's not exactly very spacious. They've been provided a bunk-bed too, which means they'll have to eventually decide who will sleep where.
no subject
Okay maybe a lot.
"If you want I can help haul things up. It'll be easier to decide where stuff goes once everything's here..."
no subject
He starts for the door, gesturing with a wave of his hand for Yosuke to follow, "And you don't have to worry about that. I don't take up much space." That...might be a light attempt at a joke? Look, he realizes he's pretty big for a freshman, but being built comes with all the rigorous swimming he's done throughout his high-school years.
no subject
Between the two of them it doesn't take long to haul everything up, though now Yosuke feels a little embarrassed about how much shit HE brought with him. But Makoto seemed pretty laid back so far, so he felt himself relaxing a bit.

If Makoto is at all bothered by the amount of things Yosuke has, he doesn't say anything at all. He just goes about his work, knelt by the little table with the drawers pulled open so he can start putting his clothes inside. Makoto looks over his shoulder at Yosuke in the meantime.
"So, what are you studying?"
no subject
"What about you, man?"
no subject
"Right now, I'm majoring in education. Though, I'm thinking that I may want to specialize in Physical Ed.," he adds as he works, shifting a little on his knees. He loved working with teaching swimming, so something like that would really be ideal, he thinks. "I'm working on getting basic courses out of the way first, as well."
no subject
"Okay. Let's get this outta the way- You're not the late night partier type, right? Any girlfriends I should expect to run into at 3am?"
no subject
If Makoto were a different person, he might have been more shocked by the question. It makes him blush, of course, but dealing with Haru has trained him to expect bluntness. ...nothing that blunt, though.
"O-oh no, not at all. I don't have a girlfriend or anything. And if I did, I wouldn't do that without some kind of warning." Never mind that he probably wouldn't at all...just the thought has him looking away again, focusing his attention on getting that shirt folded and put away.
no subject
"Sorry, I didn't want it to be weird later, you know? Uhm... so. top or bottom?"
no subject
In all honesty, he...really doesn't want to sleep up there. He feels like he would be much more comfortable closer to the ground, for multiple reasons.
no subject
He makes his way over, easily hauling himself up and over without the ladder. He has nothig on Makoto's size, but he is limber if nothing else. With a grin he lounges half off the edge with no obvious worry.
"And no worries. I don't snore... at least not that any one has told me." And there's another coy little wink.
no subject
With his clothes put away, Makoto moves to sit down on his bed to rest for a moment, looking up just as Yosuke winks at him.
"The same goes for me...at least I'm pretty sure." As he sits there, he seems to be holding his Iwatobi swim club jacket in his hands, trying to decide if he wants to put it away, or...keep it out for a while. Just for nostalgia's sake.

He certainly noticed that ugly thing.
no subject
...okay, it...is pretty weird looking, he'll admit that.
"Yes...it's our mascot. My friend Haru made a whole bunch of them for any new members that joined the team."
no subject
"Did he end up giving a lot out?"
no subject
"In fact, I'm not entirely sure what happened to all of the extra ones." Rei and Nagisa probably have them now, since it's their job to get more members to replace him and Haru. Which...he's been trying not to think too hard about, even if it is true.
no subject
"Well, I bet swimming isn't an easy sport to just pick up. I mean, hell my school didn't even HAVE a pool."
no subject
"It was a bit of an uphill battle. For a while, our school's pool wasn't fit for swimming. We had to clean it out ourselves before we could even have a team at all. And by then, everyone either wasn't interested, or they were in their own clubs already..." Makoto sighs, but his smile is quick to return. "But it did work out, in the end."
